AI Workers

I just got a idea, the game should have hireable AI workers which can be set to collect resources, help you in fights and stuff like that, as it would help with managing large battleships, especially in multiplayer. For example, a few other players dock your space station and start messing it up and killing people in it, but if you assing AI workers as guards they protect the station, heal your team, and repair it.

What do you guys think? Do you think it would make it less fun? It was probably discussed before, but im not sure.

Probably was discussed before, back in the 'W71 era' board.

These kind of ideas are a tad difficult to feel out in a forum.  Better to use working examples like, "Hireable workers like in game <X>", providing a link to a video or some such.  Gives everyone some to work off of and discuss! ^.^

I did not even think about this before but would it be better to have the ai crew be like knights and merchants? You give orders to your men and they follow like a simple rts game, and your actual town builders (serfs) automatically go and gather parts to build each thing, restock other buildings, and feed the troops when commanded to do so. Eh, probably closer to Executive Assault (which is cool btw with the whole "drive the tank" mode! ^.^ ).

We're actually messing around with RTS crew commanding right now with Micah's upcoming Unity Standalone! ::)
