Galactic War: RP thread

Use this as a dump for your diplomacy, world-building, and general role playing. I don't promise to read everything here, so make sure that any critical snippets get spoilered in your action posts in the main thread. Try to keep them short, it already takes me awhile to compile all the actions and resolve them. For meta-conversations about the game itself, take it to the meta-thread.

OOC stuff is fine, but should read like a tourist brochure for your planets/systems or as a tech bulletin for your ships/tech/bases. Post meta-stuff, comments, questions, clarifications, etc. etc. in the thread I'm about to start for that purpose.

Office of the High Executor

MEMORANDUM: To the Ruling Council

Re:  Recent activities within the Valencian Empire

My Esteemed Colleagues,

I express my gratitude for your continued blessing and co-operation regarding to the activities of the First Fleet. While I am aware that public sentiment was initially dismay over the decommission of our entire previous fleet, it was easily the best course of action available to us.  The current flagship, escorts, and support ship outclass their predecessors in every way.

By smelting and reconstructing the remaining hulls of the previos fleet, we were able to design and construct an entirely new class of powerful battleship--the Leviathan.  More importantly, we were able to do so without exacting any significant price from the civilian economy at all. Since the Leviathan masses more than 4 times the size of our previous battleships, I'm sure you can appreciate the gravity of that.

Ruling Council scientists proved critical to developing our new ships. While Praetor Fenajj has informed me repeatedly of the adverse affects this has caused on his civilian research, I can assure you the best minds in Valencia are being put to good work. In fact, we have made recent breakthroughs regarding the wormhole technology I discussed in my last report.

Once this research is complete, wormhold inducers will be fitted in orbit around both of our home systems and onboard the support vessel Titan. Interplanetary trade will become more efficient by an order of magnitude. If the home systems are attacked, the abroad fleet will be capable of rushing home at 4 times our current FTL ability. Conversely, newly-constructed warships can rapidly reinforce our fleet in hostile space. While costly, this research will provide a significant edge over our foes.

Which brings us to the next topic of this report. Our recent mobilization was initialized by supercomputer analysis of this sector, which indicated that a large-scale conflict is iminent. While I am commanding the Valencian fleet, we will not hold hostile any force without cause. But intelligence has provided numerous and consistent clues that at least one of the other factions in this sector are very likely to be hostile to us.

In the coming weeks, I hope to engage our closest neighbors to determine their standing.  We don't have to outright prevail in the upcoming conflict, any more than we desire to outright rule this part of the galaxy; I am quite content to merely orchestrate the rise of an appropriately friendly power.

Finally, my esteemed colleagues, I have heard your requests and the overwhelming public opinion regarding colonization. This must be put on hold for a short time, but make no mistake that a third Valencian planet will be founded once our Wormhole Travel has been fully researched. The people need growing room, and the fleet will need a forward operating base.

To the honor of our ancestors,

--Glimmerhad Out
--Trespassers will be promptly riddled with bullets and other unpleasant projectiles.

--Survivors will treated with apologies, steak dinner, and a VIP tour of our facilities.

"Fleet Admiral J.V. Syte," why had they put the initials on this cabin but not his others? Perhaps this one was special or, in this case, more special than the other elaborately designed lavished ship-board villas. If the crew of The Aristotle hadn't been hand picked down to the very last the Flight Mechanic one might think Syte had finally started to publicly show his paranoia. This personal cabin was more of a bomb shelter inside of a bomb shelter located at the bulkiest part of the most advanced and expensive warship currently known to the SRC, even with all of that in mind Syte still looks over his shoulder as he enters his pin-number into the touch-sensitive keypad.

This ship was different, this mission was different, everything was different now. Normally the corridors of Coalition ships would be lined with friendly faces all doing their part to keep things running, all under their loved or hated commander and all ultimately for the benefit of the Coalition as a whole. But the corridors of The Aristotle were empty as well as near silent, a ship that could have easily housed thousands held little more then a hundred of Syte's finest and most trusted and even then most of the crew are part of the flight or ground teams. The holographic image of a computer-generated female figure pops up to Syte's right as the blast doors to his cabin quickly slide open.

"Admiral, Fleet Captain Lambardi has yet to report back and is 34 minutes, 26 seconds behind schedule to do so." The AI said, a hint of emotion behind her computerized yet strangely human voice. Syte's response held a little less emotion then that.

"Noted, Anna, step the ship down to condition three and have all crew return to normal duties." He paused for a moment. "Also, relay the ship's full status and shakedown information to my bedroom and put it on the tablet."

The blast doors shut behind Syte as he strode into the room. As he removed his coat he made his way to his personal bar to take stock. The civillians aboard the adjacent Perseverance station, under the command of Station Commander Felix Gregory, continued about their lives. Not much changed over the passed year for them, life was relatively happy under Syte's marshal law.

"This is supposed to be different," Fleet Captain Thompson Lambardi grumbled, his forehead resting on the desk before him as he muddled through the audio recording of the ship's 'day-to--day'.

"I'm looking after defense systems and civilian quality of life, and I'm running into alien warships and hulks of biomass. My ship and crew aren't outfitted for this sort of thing, I am not outfitted for this sort of thing. We were told that there was no more running, and that this are of the galaxy would be safe. That's a laugh. We've spent more fuel on FTL jumps then proper scouting efforts, and it's starting to wear on my crew."

Thompson lifted his head and shook his head a few times, trying to clear his head from the drain of fatigue that had been gripping him for past few weeks of space exploration. There were dark bags under his eyes and his black hair was messy and unkempt, his once proud features were showing the signs of age, and his wife was quick to remind him of it.

"The 'brilliant' admiral has assured me that these alien warships are not of the same color that we defeated before, but something tells me there is a lot more to all this hostile activity then he has lead on. As far as reports go, the military has been having a lovely stroll through the galaxy, while my civilian sector continues to see problems, we lack supplies, our communications array keeps going down, and now hostile aliens in the territory we were ordered to go after. Something tells me this is just to keep the populace gripped in fear of aliens and death so that marshal law can continue."

He lifted his hand and ran it through his hair, letting out a loud exhale after the long winded thoughts of conspiracy. He shook his head and glanced over to the door to his quarters, where he had told his wife he would be a half hour ago. They were supposed to have another 'talk' about his retirement. The thought made him more nervous then the still unknown object lurking around the third planet of the system he had so carefully named 'The Lambardi' system, he was beginning to fear that it would progress much like his career with the Coalition: Hard fought and full of disappointments.

"Enough ramblings from me, the colony pods just touched down on the first and second planet, and we'll be establishing a relay station here once we get the ore from the planets. MY scanners continue to monitor the sector in case our alien friends come after us, or if that damn rock decides to start moving. I think I'll erect an extra Terracotta here before I leave."

"Fleet Captain Lambardi, Pale Empress, day one hundred and fifty four."

All is well in our sectors and the new Scout fleet is ready to depart. However our mission has just began. Our mission from the Home Command center is to evaluate the quadrant and make contact with any class 5 life forms. Then secure the sector designated as M3 and prepare it for the Jump Gate Tasitus.

Syte cursed under his breath, watching the virtual images of the Avidus and Imperious Battlestars grow closer and closer toward each other on his holographic display table.

"Avidus, this is Aristotle Actual, alter course to 080 056 at times 0524 then return to designated course. "

Still nothing, the two images inched yet closer together, both trying to budge into the optimal "crow's nest" position to rack up the most kills. Red blips on the table started flashing showing hostile projectiles and missiles yet his main flak screen was nowhere near it's assigned position. This time some irritation was present with Syte's tone.

"Avidus and Imperious, Aristotle actual, expedite assigned maneuvers to position and project flak field, we have confirmed shots fired."

The two images continued to close with each other, both then quickly began to flash yellow and display damage caused by a large collision. The incoming hostile missiles began impacting the 20 ships under the Heavy Cruiser Atlantia's command and shredding the Light Cruisers to pieces, their PD systems completely overwhelmed while their assigned flak screens were currently involved in a mating maneuver. The now agitated Admiral couldn't take this anymore.

"Code 4, cancel simulation, all involved relieved."

The holographic images and onboard alert messages all subsided and the ship returned to normal status as Syte dropped down into his command chair, burying his face firmly in his palm. The image of SRC's first shipboard AI appears next to him.

"There isn't much fault to be placed; you all have been used to acting in small groups for the past. Large fleet maneuvering is going to take some time to get used to."

Syte spoke, though partially into his hand.

"My two supposedly most competent Captains collided while they were both pushing for the position that would get them the most confirmed kills rather than just following orders, in a simulation, might I add?!"

After the slight outburst of emotion, quite uncommon for the young Admiral, he calmed himself and tried not to think too much more into it. Anna's image remained silent and watched him, studying his sudden outpouring of negative emotion. Finally Syte tapped his communicator again.

"All Military personnel prepare for new combat simulation starting at 0600, attendance mandatory."

The progress in M3 is going AHEAD of schedule. Several class 4 lifeforms have been found including two trade fleets and a parasitic lifeform. Tasitus has also been completed and the Home quadrant is prepared to send several Battleship groups. Our scouts have reported a large nebula blocking their path. It will be a while before they get around it.

The message played on loop directly through the stateroom speakers. The image of Syte's AI, Anna, stood next to the Fleet Admiral in an equal and mirrored display of puzzlement.

"The structure of the words indicates that it's not human." He finally spoke, shutting off the recording.

The AI's image crossed her arms and appeared to be thinking.

"The Asarians were extra terrestrial, what makes you think that there aren't more?"

Syte opened up a genetic display of the now extinct Asarians, feeling melancholy toward the fact that the genocide was on his hands.

"They shared our thought process, our looks, and our cell structure, this seems to be a completely different being altogether." He bit off that last word, looking over how his systems were able to decode this alien transmission.

"We know we're not alone, but until now all of the others have shared the qualities we've come to accept as human. This -- Enigma Race, for lack of a better term, seems to know how we interprete communication. Said conclusion would also make true the fact that they are either very territorial and advanced technologically."

The AI took a moment to word it's response, acting unbelievably human.

"I hope your wrong, Admiral, from what I've seen our ships are highly advanced but grossly outnumbered, if we were both outnumbered and outgunned---"

He interrupted her apologetically with a raised hand cutting her off.

"Wars can be fought and won in more ways than conventionally thought possible, the Asarians taught that lesson and the Old Coalition failed to learn it."

(The Star grows enormously, then space itself begins to tear apart)

Cpt - Helm! Get us out of here NOW!

(The fleet escapes safely, as the system splits and divides - but doesn't - to create 6 new systems within the jump-space of one. The freshly-revealed Lightbringer have caused this, and in so doing inhabit the new systems with 10 SS and 10 FS each. To cross this one/6 system will cost 6 jumps, and you cannot enter one specific portion to cross faster. You may enter one specific portion closest to you to engage the system in combat. These Lightbringer appear to be capable of manipulating 4th dimensional space on a system wide scale, but incapable of manipulating jump space beyond tears and paths that already exist)
