Niwantaw's Challenge.

Niwantaw's Challenge

[dramatic voice] I challenge thee members of the blockade runner community to build me a ship designed to cripple the systems of a Captial ship.
There will be prizes.[/Dramatic voice]

In other words I intend to host my own competition. However unlike the others I intend to have no limits. It must simply be able to achieve the design goal.

Scoring criteria

The ships will be marked out of fourty-five in five seperate areas.

10 marks straight up for how it looks.

10 marks for how effective I feel it would be.

10 marks for the write up. That's right I'm asking for pictures/brd AND fluff.

10 marks for creativity. This is for interesting ways of going about things. For example if I asked for "A ship or ships designed to get materials safely from point A to B in hostile space" someone who builds a large, heavily armed and armoured transport would get less marks than someone who came up with something more creative like a convoy of ships escorted by stealth frigates that ambush any would be ambushers.

5 marks for size. If I feel that you've either gone way over the top with a nine kilometer long ship when really a smaller ship would be much better or if I feel you've just not gone big enough you'll score lower. Whereas if I feel you've gone for a nice balence between size and efficiency you'll get more.

Those are the marking criteria. All marking will be done by me however I will take on the advice from the community and probably look for second opinions from people I know to be harsh critics.

Entry conditions:

1) It MUST be a ship of your own creation. Copies will not be counted.
2) You must have at least three pictures.
3) You must provide me with the brd
4) You gotta have a write up on it. What is it? what does it do? what random crap do you have to make it sound even more interesting?
5) You don't mind me storing a copy of each picture and BRD in my private dropbox in order to make life easier for me to keep the first post organized and the archive of previous entries/winners.

You can enter by either posting here with the brd/pictures attatched, via PMing me a download link to the files or by directly emailing me at Fishhunter87@gmail.com

Timeframe

You have three weeks from the time of this post (26th august-16th september) in order to complete your build. You must have submitted it by 6PM BST on the 16th of september for it to count.
There will then be a single week in order for the community to comment on the ships and for me to make my mind up.

Late entries

Any late entry will not be counted unless you have contacted me directly via PM before the end of submissions and told me why your submission will be late and if possible furnished me with a WiP brd so I can at least get a vague idea on what it will be

Winners and prizes

The winner will be announced and contacted via PM at the end of the fourth week.
Prizes will consist of whatever happens to be on hand at the time. Be it random steam games or a pizza delivered to your house. I will try to keep a selection of prizes on offer for any winner but that will depend on circumstances.

Other stuff

The reason for this competition is to try and promote more varied types of ships.
I intend to collect the best images/ships submitted and at some point collect them into massive fleet pictures to use to advertise BR. Thus by submitting you agree to let me or someone else plaster them all over the interwebs (the builder of each ship will be posted alongside the images)
The rules can be changed and/or updated without warning.

In short

Build me a ship to cripple capital ship systems.
It can be whatever you please as long as it will achieve that goal.
Entries in by the 16th september, winner announced on the 23rd.
There will be prizes.

Well, I won't *Win* Anything with it, I know that much. Well... Except maybe in *effectiveness*

Thunderbolt Class Captial Ship Gun Carrier; RDS Class Designation, RDS 700

(For reference, I had to back off from the ship about EIGHT HUNDRED METRES to get this shot.)

This 800 metre monster is the IUN's answer to Capital Ships. She's 120 metres wide at the tail, and is the second largest IUN ship to date. She is powered by the A-X-22 'Quantum' Artificial Singularity Containment System, the same power source used on the Anlita-Salta. Her main armament is a pair of the biggest weapons the IUN has ever concieved, not one, but two 900cm railguns with an exit velocity of nearly 0.00002c, and not only impacting with the kinetic force of it's velocity to the hull of whatever it hits, behind the main tungsen carbide penetrator head sits a 50MT thermonuclear charge set to detonate 0.005 seconds after initial impact. The velocity of the projectile defeats raised hull armour designed to detonate enemy warheads early by penetrating through the raised material and detonating against the main hull or inside the enemy vessel for massive damage.

Her internal ammo bays use a modular ammunition insertion system for quick reloading. These doors open to reveal the cavern that makes up the first and second ammo racks. The massive railgun shells are stacked 2 high and put into special frames, which then feed in through the doors. The shells themselves lock into housings on the inside, then the frame disconnects from them and is pullled out and filled with new shells for the next time the ship docks. This also allows for quick emergency ejection of the ammo in case the need arises.

The massive cannons use an airlock system to ensure the ammunition rack remains safe from external enemy fire. The internal door slides downwards into the ammo rack to allow the shell passage, while the outer door slides downwards to clear the barrel of the cannon once the internal door is secured. Since the shell bay is always depressurised during combat to ensure no fires can set off the charges within the shells, there is no time lost for a de/compression cycle.

The ship is powered by a single, yet powerful N6-a3 propulsion unit, capable of moving the vessel at a respectable speed for a ship of it's size. The mass of the guns and the sheer power required to operate them means she lacks in other areas, she isn't quick to steer and her supporting armament of 34 COIL arrays and 44 500mm missile tubes can keep her safe from enemy destroyers trying to cut her in half, she relies on her shielding to keep her from getting too heavily damaged.

This one is named ARAL SEA, and I'm quite proud of her.

Build time:
25% Completion without Editor: 2 Months
26%-100% outer hull completion: 30 minutes.
Length: 800 metres
Width: 120 metres

BRD attached, and will be sent to the provided email by tonight.

~~ENJOY~

I'm cooking something up, as well.  Actual completion and entry depends on whether or not I can pull myself away from Planetside 2 long enough to work on it. ;D

The Narwhal

Barrel
Spoiler

The narwhal is originally designed as a mining vessel. The original plan was for it to blow up the asteroids and then have other ships pick up the valuable bits. After the revolt of the Goj, which destroyed the galaxy-wide mining industry, only 4 of these ships remain.

As these ships where the only real threat to the Goj's massive Ulroth, they where widely used by the miners to defend themselves. The most used tactic for these ships was setting up in a debris/asteroid field and waiting for the Ulroth to enter weapons range. When this was the case, a 3 meter radius tungsten slug was sent to the target with a speed of 0.2 times the speed of light.

Spoiler

Normally Narwhals couldn't reach these muzzle velocities with the standard build of the ship, so they where known to be upgraded extensively. Most ships got a large optical array for more accurate longrange firing, triple the amount of reactor power, magnetic rings around the barrel, and a bigger ammunition rack.
Standard Narwhals where capable of carrying 3 rounds +1 in the chamber, this was upgraded to 7 +1, but the mechanism that feeds the rounds became highly unreliable because of the vertical distance it had to travel now. Magnetic rings around the barrel where designed to function as a hybrid Gauss Gun. These magnetic rings required a lot more power than the current reactors could put out, so 4 new sets where added to the ship, forcing the miners to extend the rear section.

Rear Section + Engines
Spoiler

A problem arose when the Narwhal shot more than 5 rounds, because of the size of the shell catching section. This section was only large enough to hold 4 empty shells, so the miners where forced to expand that area also.

NC.  Can't stand VS's purple-ness.

Also, I'm afraid I won't be entering due to computer problems.  It keeps randomly shutting down.  (This is typed on my tablet.)

It isn't a Really Big Gun, though.

To Czorio - It's a magnetic cannon, right?  Why would you need shells?
Or did I miss something?

If you get the problems fixed and the final thing pm'd to me by next Friday it'll be fine.

also from what was up with my computer's comp  check the graphics card. It might be deciding that it needs nine gazillion watts of power and tripping the power supply.

Well that's it. The competition is closed. Kane you're good until friday if you get your comp problems fixed.

Imaus if you've got something brewing that needs a lil' longer can you PM me about it?

I shall post my responses to the entries by saturday and announce the winner then.

'tis a hybrid, uses the force from the shell combined with the magnetic rings for increased power.

That actually surprises me.

Everyone built giant cannons? No minelayers? No E-War ships? No bombers?

Actually next round there's a "Must be a new ship" clause going in there. I wanna see NEW interesting ships with ingenious ideas rather than ships out of the ark.
