Interesting shapes.  I definitely like the sphere placing on either side of the midsection.

p.s. For screen shots I switch the texture quality to low and enable mip maps (not sure enabling mip maps makes a real difference) but for distance shots of large ships it almost eliminates the unwanted moire pattern and can give it some extra depth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern

Hopefully we will get the best of both worlds with the next release.

Wow. Nice simple changes but really change the feel of it.   Like the small but significant asymmetry.  Some kind of mobile tachyon communication relay perhaps?

um.... I went a bit OTT and now it's 234m long.... not really happy with what I've done to the middle but it now has some seriously cool engines and viewing decks.  8)

looks more like a science vessel that something military.... a really big scence vessel... space college perhaps?

Awsome Tarot!  Try taking a snapshot or two with lowres and mip-map enabled - or if you don't have time I can when I get home later! :P

I'm glad there's interest in this sort of thing.  Definitely need to have some more structure the next go-around, though. ;D

How about a space station next time around?

Start with something dreadfully boring like a simple 50m cube, then have each player add a new wing, addition, shuttle bay, defence platform, etc?

Yes. I like this. Except, how about someone makes a large, empty asteroid instead of a cube? I could probably provide the asteroid.

I like this plan but may I suggest a few rules;

  • 1. the section should have a purpose, no random shapes filled with nothing
  • 2. make an attempt at the interior of your section, try to make it clear what the section does. if you there isn't a prefab for that yet.... uh improvise?
  • 3. respect others build sections
  • 4. (this one's for me) try not to get carried away and double the damn things size!

we should formalise this and make a list of everything that a spacestation needs and perhaps assign/let people choose what they want to build. then once everything that needs to be done gets done they we just keep adding things that we would like.

We could impose some rough rules, like try not to make your additions larger than 50 meters cubed, or 100m in the major direction.

Or, we could just say "Make an interior for your section, or we're just going to chop it off with the next re-build."

I'm against the limitations in size, limit the amount of sections/rooms you can build at once to 2 or something like that. 5 at most.

Anyway, did a small concept of the hub. Plating subject to change, it was never my forte.
