This is strictly a mid-development test of the multiplayer and is highly unstable!

May 8th 2012
We've got the master server up and running and it does everything but finally connecting the players together!  We've got a suspicion on the cause (possibly still a NAT / port forwarding issue) and are still investigating.

Since LAN technically does function, we've decided to let LAN users try the build out while we debug the master server issue!  Please follow the instructions below and check back frequently for updates!

IMPORTANT
  • [ESCAPE] > Spawn to spawn a new ship!
  • [F] To Pilot Entities
  • [TAB] Shows names and distance at the location of players
  • Remember to add Blockade Runner to your Firewall's exceptions!
  • Run ...BlockadeRunner\Server\server.exe, and then join the game!
  • Entities will only take damage while someone is piloting them
  • Any entity can be loaded -- be careful with other player's framerate!
  • "reset" in the server console window resets the server without having to shut it down
  • Server ping shows an ungodly number, pay it no mind
  • Server names can be set by editing the "BR - Server.exe.config"
  • Port number is 32411

KNOWN ISSUES
There are many, but here are a few redundant ones:
  • Remove Entity does nothing and will likely crash the game

ONLINE PLAY
If you happen to get online play to work, please let us know!

We'll be adding a Direct IP option ASAP so everyone can try out the on-line version while we tinker with the master server...

Saving ships in the 0.58.0 Editor crashes the game for me (and it hadn't before now).  :(

But on the bright side LAN seems to work.  ;D
I'm sure it will be so distracting I won't even notice not being able to build things in 0.58.0. So far resorting to imports from previous versions has been working sufficiently.

I like this update, I hosted a server, and it didn't crash! after about 2 minutes and 3 or 4 bursts from quadrunner at Outpost Beta, the server timed me out, and the game crashed.
Also here's a tip : Click shift while turning in a slow/hard to handle ship , it will make it much easier to move.

There's a master server , you connect to that server, and people connect to the master server, the master server can forward you to a personal server.
LAN means Local Area, meaning you can only connect with people in your local area.

i think you do need/could use hamachi since its unlikely any of use are in LAN range of each other lol.

Anyone UP to set-up a "public" hamachi server to stress it out??? Here in Italy we have the worst internet connection ever.

Do NOT try with Hamachi unless you're using a really old version.  The new Hamachi's are not made for gaming and will lag your connection like mad.  Use one of the many other VPN services specifically for games to tunnel your LAN through.  ^^  On a side note, I haven't tried the paid for version of Hamachi which lets you turn off encryption/etc, which might be the cause of the lag.

I'll see if I can get around to testing this build online today and post back.

Hamachi isn't too bad for gaming is it? As long as you get a bright green connection.

Odd... I got multiplayer to work

admittingly there wasn't anyone in that server
