This is a work in progress however for convenience I have put basic pointers to left people figure this out on their own if the wish.
In this tutorial We are going to voxelize a 3d model of a ship into 3d cubes.
Firstly we need several things -
The password is
The top link is to Google Sketchup Download
The bottom link is to Sketchup Voxelize plugin
Install Google sketchup (should be self explanatory)
Install the plugin by putting the files downloaded into the Google sketchup root directory. (the read-me should tell you how to install)Step 1
Firstly you must get a model, either make one or source one from the 3d warehouse.
to do so, with sketchup open, click on the "File" tab, go down to "3D Warehouse", and then click "get models" and search for a model of your liking.Step 2
Explode the ship by going right clicking on the model and selecting "explode", do this until you cannot do it any more.
Clean the model if need be.Step 3
Now you must group the ship, do this by selecting the entire model, [Ctrl] + [A] will work here, right click on the model and search for "Make Group"
Now use the "Line tool" to draw a line from the most rear point, then while the line tool is still active type the number of meters you want the length of your ship to be. Now select the "Scale" tool and scale the model to the line you drew.
- file > 3d Warehouse > get models
- locate ship of your liking
- explode ship constantly till it is no longer in any components or groups
- clean ship if need be
- group ship
- select ship
- scale ship using scale tool and tape measure
- plugins > voxelize
- 1m - shell
- let it process
- if it is bigger then 100m split the model
- draw a line
- divide the line
- make a square plane
- duplicate it and position along divided line
- intersect model with square planes
- delete square planes
- edit group
- parallel projection
- side camera view
- separate the ship
- group each segment
- voxelize each segment
- if need be due to curves
- layerize each row of blocks.
