First Human Mining Fleet contest
« on: September 25, 2011, 11:04:31 am »
I have thought of a little idea for a contest similar to Zerebo's ship pack. I challenge all of you to build ships to accompany my mining centrifugal space station. The parameters I listed are just guidelines, if you think you have something better feel free to just make it and throw it up. Please try to keep all ships Human-esque.

What I want:
  • Freight: min L:100 W:50-75 H:50-75 (I want this to be what transports materials from the station to other parts of the universe. I want it to have big cargo sections in the middle and have light weaponry)
  • Small Cruiser Escort: L:50-75 W:25-65 H:25-65 (This escorts the Freights and guards the station.)
  • Small Fighter: L:<=25W:15-20H:15-20 (This one is primarily for defending the station and to go into the Cruiser)
  • Drop Pod L:<=4 W:<=4 H:<=6(This will be dropped from ships or stations onto the surface of planets or asteroids. It should be able to enter and leave a planet at will with minimal maneuverability.)
  • Small/Medium/Large Mining Vessel: Sizes are up you you because I don't know what kind of equipment will be put in them to mine with.

I want to work this into some sort of mining super pack that when we are allowed to sell our blue prints on the market this one will be a big and expensive one. I will give it to you for free if you submit a ship that is included in it. If you do it do it for the free Space station lol.

Do it in the one that works for you. We can add in more mechanics when updates come out. For now all I want is designs.

I've made a start on a Freight vessel, it's ~80 long, ~25 wide and will be as high as the cargo containers are.
The idea is it's a general purpose large hauling vessel, it consists of a main cabin with bridge, engineering, weapons etc at the front and a large engine at the back. There are then five separate slots for cargo containers to be held in.

It still needs a lot of polish, and I may leave it until the game is a bit more stable. :P

I like this size of the Ishimura just fill it out and make it sturdy! No big suggestions here it looks good so far. I want your freighter to be a closed hull freighter so that there can be atmosphere inside the cargo hold.

I really like the concept in the one by Dayshine for being open to space and just setting materials in it. Do some more work on it and I will take it!
Suggestions
Add some more around where the containers will be held so it has more structural support. Bulk up like a 3x3 ring of plate metal around it.
I am assuming that you will have a good amount of shielding around it so if it gets ambushed it isn't destroyed.
Bulk up the connection the space ship has to cargo containers. I could shoot the thinnest part of it and snap it in two!

I could turn this frigate I'm making into a mining ship. Thing is that I've already done more than half of the hull (I did the inside first), and it would need to be accompanied by a freighter to transport the stuff it mines, because it has little room for cargo.
Note: It's made in W20, so the interior will not be intact if loaded in W23. Here's a picture of what's done so far:

You should make the ship have 1 oblong side that is offset so that the mining drill can be swung out and shoot from the side of the ship and then be swung back in when done.

Does that sound cool or what!

Ishimura's skeleton is complete: 22576 blocks, W:35, H:46, L: 160. It's pretty damn huge, i'll upload a video as soon as I come back from Uni.

The small fighter looks like interesting.  I'll give it a try in W23 and if I can't figure the engines out, I'll give it a go in W20.
Building stuff.
