Preparing Sketchup Models for 3dsmaxStep 1
Firstly you must make a model, this tutorial assumes you have the knowledge to do basic modelling in Sketchup.
Here I have a basic model displaying the most common issues. Step 2
Second step after creating you model is intersecting all faces.
To do so, either [CTRL] + [A] or Drag and select the entire model, after doing that right click, find "Intersect Faces" and within that tab find "With Selection" (the "With Model" intersects selected faces even with unselected faces)
After that it should now look like thisStep 3
Now you must select Unnecessary Edges and delete them.
In this model it is obvious which edges require deletion.
Now after selecting said edges, press the [Delete] Key (to select multiple edges hold [CTRL] while selecting, to unselect hold [SHIFT] to and then click on unwanted edges to deselect (warning you can also select using the [SHIFT] key)
It should now look like this.Step 4
Now to delete unnecessary Faces.
the following images indicate how NOT to delete hidden faces
Selecting this edge and pressing is not the way to delete hidden faces.
It will only cause errors like in the second image.
The correct way is to navigate inside of the model, to ensure you are inside of the model the faces surrounding you (if untextured or in monochrome mode) are a light purple.
Here we can see the hidden face, now to delete the hidden faces and edges.
As before simply select the edges and faces and delete them.
Now you must do that again but only with the middle edge (deleting a edge will in most cases remove adjacent Faces)
It should now look like thisDone
Congratulations you should now know the basics of cleaning a model for 3dsmax.
As a Side note 3dsmax can open sketchup files. A tutorial for correcting sketchup file sizes in 3dsmax will come soon.
